My First Easy Reader!

Anyone else remember learning to read in the era of "see Spot go"? The simple texts and repetitive words helped the newest readers learn the new skill of reading, with fun pictures to keep them interested. This is what I've tried to accomplish with The Yellow Hen and The Little Blue Egg. It's my very first level 1 easy reader, and will be free to try out on Sunday, 2/24/2013. Hope your little reader enjoys it!

Sneak Preview ... Scaly, Slimy Creatures!

My first picture book for Kindle is about animals, specifically insects, amphibians, reptiles and other fun creatures in a format that's easy for kids to enjoy on their own or while you read aloud to them.

This impressive Iguana makes an appearance, as do a couple dozen other critters, including a snake and -- sorry moms -- a cockroach.

I read the first draft to my kids (and made m sister read it to hers) and it got a unanimous thumbs-up from the 6-and-under crowd. They only got to see the black and white draft version, so I imagine it'll be even more appreciated in color.

Update:

We published the book a week ahead of schedule, last night, and it's live on the site today -- you can check it out at on Amazon: The ABC's of Slimy, Scaly, Winged, and Wormy Critters.

We may do a contest for free copies, or if you have a blog and would like to review it there, I am happy to give you a review copy via Amazon -- just leave me a comment and your email address or a way to contact you!

Writing Children's Kindle Picture Books

Some good kids' Kindle books
My newest project is writing children's picture books for the Kindle platform.

I think there is such a lack of good quality, educational books for kids for the Kindle and other e-readers ... so I'm combining my experience in education and my love of writing to write a new series. I'm putting together books I would buy for my own kids -- books I will let them look at on my Kindle while I'm busy writing more for the series, I'm sure. ;)

I used to be a teacher and now I'm an at-home mother to my three kids. I loved teaching and I love being a mom, and I also love having a creative outlet ... writing these books (I started my first last month) is filling that need!
